93rd Entry  R.A.F.Halton

                                                                                              Newsletter

The plans for celebrating the 50th Anniversary of our signing on the dotted line are progressing well.

The schedule is as follows:

                                Friday 18th September 2009  morning visit to No1 S of T T R.A.F.Cosford

Saturday 19th September 2009 morning visit to R.A.F. Cosford Museum

Saturday 19th September 2009 evening meal at The Mount Hotel

Ian Maxey is making the arrangements to visit No1 S of T T. and below are his latest thoughts.

Cosford, or more correctly the Defence College of Aeronautical Engineering, have planned our visit and issued a Visit Instruction for it - so it's officially booked and arranged!  Meet by 10am sharp at the Visitors' Car Park, just opposite main entrance, where their Project Officer will meet us with a coach (free!).  Hence, we only need a nominal roll, leaving cars outside. Then they take us to the briefing room, followed by the Apprentice/Boy entrant History room, and then on to the training facilities/hangars.  We'll split into 2 groups (Airframes/ Engines - go to Hangar 146 and the Ground Aircraft Maintenance (engine run etc) facility; and Electrical/Inst/Avionic/Armourer group for Hangar 143 & the Avionic System Trainer).  We'll then whistle stop around the rest of the station in the coach and be dropped back outside at our cars by 1pm.  It's both long enough and covers what we wanted.

They say that the ladies/families are welcome but their experience now of many of these trips down memory lane (e.g. 91st have just done theirs) is that the ladies do get a touch bored whilst the blokes are ooing and ahhing over the facilities, so they recommend we consider what our ladies can be doing elsewise.  As it is that time of the day - they don't do a lot after 1pm on Fridays, hence the morning only - and we'd need people to be there in time, we are planning to stay the night before in a hotel.   Therefore, to give the ladies something to do on the Friday, at least some of us will be staying at Ironbridge, adjacent to the Gorge & Museum, on the Thursday night and possibly Friday too.  Then we can come to the musuem all together on Saturday and from there go on to the Mount for the evening do.  We have some hotel names and tel. nos for those who wish them.

Dennis Williams is the contact for Saturday's events and below are copies of his latest emails.

These are the details for our 50th anniversary of joining RAF Halton on Saturday 19th September 2009.

Ian Maxey has been in touch with No. 1 School of Technical Training at Cosford with a view for those that wish, to have a guided tour around the tech training facilities for current RAF technicians. This has been provisionally arranged for Friday 18th Sept. 2009. Obviously the RAF would like to know the numbers of people involved. In the first instance, if you are interested, please let me know A.S.A.P. and I will convey the details to Ian.

That’s the Friday taken care of for those that are interested.

Now we come to the Saturday. The plan is that we meet at the R.A.F. Museum Cosford at 1100hrs on Saturday the 19th Sept 2009. Guided tours are available for those that want them,

please let me know. If any body requires disabled facilities, again please let me know.

At approx 1300/1330 hrs a buffet lunch has been arranged consisting of platters of sandwiches, Shropshire pork pies, cocktail sausage rolls, savoury quiche, crisps and nibbles.

Liquid refreshments will be available ie- tea, coffee, soft drinks. There is no licensed facility.

(but a beer would be nice!!) The price of the buffet is going to be in the region of  £6 odd.. I cannot get a price on this, but it is definitely going to go up.

I think around 1600/1630hrs we would probably have had enough, so we can go back to the accommodation for Egyptian PT. and get ready for the dinner.

Now for the hotel. The hotel is :

The Mount Hotel,

Mount Road,

Tettenhall Wood,

Wolverhampton,

West Midlands.

WV6 8HL  Tel 01902 752055. www.themount.co.uk

I have pre booked about 50 rooms for this occasion. The rates I have negotiated are as follows:      £90 single, dinner, bed and breakfast,

                 £115 double,------------“-----------------

                   £70 single, bed and breakfast

                   £85 double bed and breakfast.

The dinner on its own will be £25 each person. This is for those people who want to make their own accommodation arrangements for the night(s). I have not checked on what accommodation is available in the area.

When booking your accommodation, book under heading: ‘RAF reunion dinner Sept 19th 2009’.

The B&B price to us staying for evening meal and B&B, as you can see is £65, I think this is

a good price by comparison. (compared to the Bell house in 2002)

The dinner is: sit down 1830hrs, for serving at 1900hrs. It is supposed to finish at 0030hrs.

The bar closes at 1 minute after 2359hrs.

With the numbers involved with on this occasion we can only pick one meal from the menu

selection, the menu choice along with the vegetarian (not vegan) are given as

attachments to this e-mail. If anybody has any strong preferences (or dislikes) please let me know,

because I will have to decide what we have.

Anyone who would prefer a guten  free menu, choices are available, so please let me know.

Anyone wishing to come to the reunion, a £10 deposit is required.

For administration and expenses a £1.50 charge per person has to be charged.

Let’s make this a reunion to remember.

It is now about six months left before our reunion on 19th September.

The buffet for the Saturday visit to the museum has been chosen:

PLATTER OF ASSORTED SANDWICHES, CHICKEN GOUJONS IN A SOUTHERN FRIED BREADCRUMB, TRIPLE CHEESE MINI PIZZA, CRISPS AND NIBBLES.

This will cost £6 each. Please let me know if you have any problems with the buffet. The buffet is scheduled for 13.30hrs. Please send me the £6 if you require the buffet.

I also need to know if you wish to do the tech site visit around the current No. 1SofTT on Friday the 18th. If you do not mention the visit, I shall assume that you do not wish to go.

I also need to know if there are any problems, likes, dislikes about the Saturday night dinner with regards to vegetarian, gluten free etc. It will not be possible on the day to change anything.

So, all you lads who have not made the decision to attend the reunion, let’s have a positive decision and make it a superb reunion. If you have any queries please let me know.

Hope to see a lot of you in September.

I do not wish to publish personal addresses and telephone numbers on the website but I will forward

questions through the web site address.
